Honestly, it's bad A review of Brookside Resort
OK, we're not the type of people to either write bad reviews or check out of hotels, but this calls for it. I'm not sure what hotel the rest of the reviewers stayed at, but it certainly seems like a place much different than what my wife and I saw recently (Summer 2004) at the Brookside. First of all, they say they're 4 1/2 blocks from the Aquarium, maybe so, but only if your talking Las Vegas-size blocks. Anyway, we checked in (streamside-standard room) and upon walking in an old, musty smell hit our noses that nearly sent my wife running. We quickly decided that this was something we would not be able to deal with. The decor is old to the point of being drab (we've dealt with old before and didn't mind it, but this seemed excessive). They offered to upgrade us to a deluxe room for free. We agreed to look. It was a little better, but had a wood-burning fireplace in the corner, so the room had a wet-burnt-wood smell. We checked out 15 minutes after checking in and found other lodging. To be fair to the staff, they were very courteous when we informed them we'd be leaving because we were unhappy with the condition of the rooms.
