Historic architecture, had no problems A review of 1905 Basin Park Hotel
We stayed at the Basin Park Hotel in June 2003. I only found out about the Trip Advisor site in 2005 but wanted to add my comments about the hotel.
We found that the room was quite nice...it had an old-fashioned charm but was perfectly functional and clean. The bathroom was clean and I could find no flaws with it...bed was comfortable. There was an antique dresser with mirror in the room, large closet, TV with cable. The air conditioner was kind of an old window unit but worked fine. The only thing not clean in the room was the outsides of the windows. (The windows were quite large, going almost from floor to ceiling.)
There is a restaurant and bar on about the 2nd floor of the hotel, food and service were good. We had a fish dish with an almond sauce that kind of had a sweet taste to it...we did not like the sweetness of the sauce but the dishes were well prepared. You can dine out on a balcony overlooking the town. Dinner was $40-50 for two.
On the top floor is a ballroom and a cocktail lounge or bar...the bar had loud rock music playing, we don't really go for that so we did not go in.
The parking for the hotel is a ways away down a steep hillside, although there is a shuttle van to take you there or help you pick up your luggage.
The hotel room was about $110 total a night. We though it was quite nice, had no problems and would recommend it based on our stay in 2003.
