Hilton Minneapolis - Get a corner room and you'll love it A review of Hilton Minneapolis

We stayed here May 5-7 and we find the spotty reviews here a bit more negative than our own experience. We took a corner room and we were rewarded a decent downtown view, plus a very large room that included a king bed, couch and a low glass table with three very comfortable stuffed chairs. The room looked to be about twice the standard size of the run-of-house rooms, (which some are citing as being on the small side.) It was immaculately clean upon arrival and housekeeping was decent throughout.

The front desk was helpful and there is parking underneath the hotel at $12/day, which you can charge to your room. Six high-speed elevators serve the 25 floors and there is not a lot of waiting around. The lobby is very nice and there is a large bar with tables that is elevated several feet. Smoking is allowed in this area (for better or for worse, depending on your point of view on these things.)

We tried the adjoining restaurant, Harmony's, which is open to the lobby. The seafood pasta was a decent choice for $15.95; well prepared and the service was excellent. The place was very quiet on this particular evening, though it was late and we observed that dinner can tend to be an early crowd here. (There are many choices of places to eat within walking distance and it's worth picking up a brochure that the Hilton makes available that lists them.)

The Twin Cities don't have the same kind of "hotel culture" that exists in cities like New York, Chicago, Washington DC or New Orleans, as examples. Consequently, it can be difficult to compare the prevailing service atmosphere with higher end properties in those types of environments. In addition, this is a new building and while it is very nicely done, a little history in a large hotel can go a long way toward providing some character. We give the Minneapolis Hilton an overall thumbs up and we believe it will probably become even better as it matures.
