Hilo Honu Inn is fabulous! A review of Hilo Honu Inn
Hilo Honu Inn is a beautifully restored vintage Hawaiian home which Bill and Gay have turned into a fabulous B & B. The location is close enough to Hilo town, but not too close! Plenty of parking for guests, we never had problem finding a space.
The main sitting room is very comfortable and inviting, and breakfast is served down here also. The suite upstairs is a Japanese themed room ( the Samurai suite) with a wonderful panoramic view of downtown and the bay. At night we sat in the sitting area off of the bedroom, and watched the cruise ships sail out of the bay...very relaxing. Also noticed many stars that we don't see here on the mainland. There is a huge soaking tub that also has a great view, although we did not get to spend much time there! Very comfortable accomodations, and we appreciated the Big Island guidebook that Bill & Gay thoughtfully placed on the nightstand. I noticed the downstairs rooms had them also.
Each room downstairs had a different decor, one was tropical with a great four poster bed and the other was an ocean theme with a beautiful coral reef/fish tiled shower. Bill & Gay's attention to detail is very evident in every aspect of the Inn, including breakfast, which was homemade and yummy. We understand that Bill is THE muffin man! A wonderful stay all in all, Bill & Gay's love for the island that they have made their home is contagious and we can't wait to return. As far as we are concerned, this is the only place to stay in Hilo. Five stars!! (When you go, ask Bill & Gay to tell you the story about the hollow step in the staircase...fascinating Hawaii history!)
