Hello - you are not listening to me! A review of Hilton Pearl River

Not the best hotel I have stayed in.

Big problem for me was that the front desk do not listen to your questions. One call was "where is the nearest shopping mall" - I was immediately put on hold and left there.

Later in the evening, because the wireless Internet was not working, I was transferred to their Internet company's helpline who did not answer nor ring back. When I rang back later to find out about the status of the Wireless connection, as soon as I mentioned the word "Internet", I was transferred to the helpline number again. The purpose of my call had been to ask that they should not charge me for a service that was not working".

Worse still, the Internet access costs $5.00 per night at this hotel.

Breakfast was pretty poor and in an unattractive room. The metal flip lid containers of bacon and sausage were badly place under a small glass canopy so that you nearly got scalded if you tried to open then fully. And when I ate there, there was sugar on the breakfast table - a basics mistake that probably indicates poor attention to detail.

The clincher for me was late at night when the toilet bowl blocked for some reason and the cistern would not fill. I don't need that sort of aggravation in a $160 per night hotel.

What about the rooms? I think they were past their prime - classic late 80s style - with no refrigerator, rattling airconditioning unit and poor room lighting.

Compared to the honest, good value of sister chain Doubletree Suites, the this Hilton hotel was a real disappointment.
