Harborside Hotel & Marina = Work in Progress A review of Harborside Hotel & Marina
I recently stayed 5 nights in this hotel and have a pretty good feel for both the positive and negative aspects. Overall I think this will be a pretty good hotel in the future - but still has a long way to go. The hotel has some definite strong points - comfortable beds, marble showers, decks, nice heated pool and decent continental breakfast. Also, if you are not staying in a B&B, this is one of the best centrally located hotels for Bar Harbor. The entire town is within easy walking distance. It is also close to park entrances and the ferry port.
That being said, I do agree with the other negative comments about the hotel made on this site. Our room did not have an alarm clock or any hotel information guide. They had not finished painting the deck and it did not have any deck furniture. When bringing up these issues to the front desk, they had a terrible attitude and later reluctantly provided the deck chairs/table. The clocks had not arrived yet they said and they had no hotel guides. In addition, significant construction and landscaping is occurring throughout the entire complex, inside and out. The pool area was more like a construction zone one day with workers milling about. The fitness center was unusable as it had been allowed to flood twice. This flooding was due to a hole in the wall open to the weather (not a good idea in rainy downeast Maine). Perhaps the worst part of all of this was the lack of signs or any type of information to guests notifying them of construction or apologizing for any inconveniences. In the end, I felt like I was staying at someone's unfinished house. Again, the positives for this hotel stand and I do think it will be a good hotel next year or the year after. In the meantime, a more helpful, friendly staff and acknowledgement of the ongoing construction would improve matters greatly.
