Had a great time! A review of La Quinta Inn Tampa Near Busch Gardens
My fiance and I just came back from spending the weekend in Tampa. We stayed at the hotel from 1/7 - 1/9 and had a great time! We were a little aprehensive about the hotel since the reviews were not the best, but we were pleasantly surprised. The check in was quick and fast. We arrived there and were greeted by the person at the front desk who already had our paperwork ready and we were done in 5 minutes. The lobby is very nice and the grounds were kept well. We had booked a regular room with a King size bed. The room was very clean, and nicely decorated. The bathroom was immaculate and we did not encounter "ratty" blankets, we were surprised by the bed. It was a pillowtop and was extremely comfortable for being in a hotel. When we arrived at the room I did notice that we were missing towels but I called the front desk and within minutes they had clean towels ready for us.
We went up to Tampa to spend the weekend and go to Busch Gardens, for a short stay this hotel is excellent. It is directly across from Busch Gardens and not as expensive as some of the other hotels that are on the strip. We did go to the free breakfast and again we were surprised. They had an assortment of juices, coffee, tea, bagels, cereals, danishs, muffins, and waffles for you to eat. Not your ordinary "free continental breakfast". It was actually appetizing.
Here's the deal, if you are staying longer than a weekend then I would not suggest staying in Tampa at all! Stay in Orlando and drive over for the day! Tampa itself is horrible. Busch Gardens is a nice park in a bad location. There is nothing to do at night and the restaurants are limited. Don't even bother wasting your gas to go to "Ybor City" it is not what it is made out to be. They call it the "South Beach" of Tampa. Being from Miami I was expecting some nightlife and some nice restaurants to go out and eat. This is not the case. All of the "clubs" were empty except for the goth one and there are about 15 restaurants, 10 of which are pizza. But hey if pizza and Goth clubs are your thing then have fun otherwise look on Fowler Ave for a nice restaurant. Disney downtown, Orlando downtown, and Citywalk blow this place away.
By the way to get a discounted rate mention that you were referred by USF and they will give you the $59 dollars a night rate. :)
