Grossly disappointing A review of West Beach Resort
Do you want to pay $1400 after tax for one week in a tiny, kitschy cabin with mismatched 70s decor and a ripped armchair?. It was called "the classic" (waterfront) and I was told on the phone that it was very nice inside. When I arrived, I told management that I felt like I was staying at the Salvation Army. The weather stripping on the peeling front door was torn and sticking out. There were no screens on any windows, so we had a house full of flies the entire time. It was dark and one of the "silk" flower arrangements had a two-year build-up of dust on it. The head of our bed dove down about 6 inches lower than the foot. The "well-equipped kitchen" had a microwave that didn't work properly, a filthy cast iron pan, a peeling teflon frypan, and one stainless steel frying pan, but no appropriate spatula to use with it. To top it off, you couldn't open the cupboard doors when the coffee maker was sitting on the counter, and there was no other place to put it. It was like adding insult to injury when we had to rent a crab pot and tv for $10 a day each. It cost $12 an hour to rent bicycles, so we ended up buying a used one in town instead, which we left on the island. The hot tub cover is disheveled, giving the resort a rundown appearance. The smoke from all the beach front campfires smouldered all night, and the air was so heavy that after two days we all started coughing, and several of us came home with bronchitis. On the upside, we stayed at the campground (above the beach) two years ago and it was adequate. The setting is nice, and the manager was friendly.
