Great weekend hotel A review of Sofitel Brussels Le Louise
We wanted a weekend break somewhere easy to get to and without a lot of pressure to "see the sights". Just a bit of shopping and eating and Brussels and the Sofitel were brilliant for this purpose. The hotel is situated above the Avenue Louise shopping mall just 2 mins from the Louise metro which is 3 stops from Gare du Midi where the Eurostar comes into. From our window on the 4th floor we could see the Louis Vuitton, Versace, Feregamo, Chanel and Gucci shops all in a row!! Just around the corner on Rue Jordan was a row of eateries, La Maison du pescher (sp?) was our favourite (try the lamb!!!). Very handy as the hotel doesn't have its own dining room for dinner (only breakfast) and the room service is limited - enough for a snack and it is 24 hrs. Its also a nice walk down to the Grand Place which is the very touristy bit with all the pavement cafes for lunch and a wander. But we were glad to be staying a little away from that.
The room itself was very comfortable, soft beige and sage tones and a good size for a couple. A good sized bed which was quite firm but comfortable, and a reasonable selection of TV channels including BBC1 and 2! The bathroom was terracotta marble, well propportioned and well lit. Great shower too.
The bar area has 2 bay windows overlooking the street below and was excellent for passing the time of day reading and people watching. Great service and never crowded.
And the breakfasts.... a beautiful room well laid out, relaxing colours, big windows overlooking the central garden area and an excellent choice of food. And they are open till 10.3am which was brilliant as we like to have a lie in on the weekend. The waiting staff were always courteous and efficient, but not intrusive.
All in all we had a great weekend, its a fab hotel in a great location and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Would also very much like to go back.
