Great Week in Malta A review of Preluna Hotel & Spa
Have just returned from a week in Malta. My wife and I went went with a air/hotel/meals package for Cdn$1800 arranged by Goway Travel and we stayed in the Preluna Hotel. In Malta we were on our own and walked or used the excellant local bus service. Our Hotel in Sliema has a bus stop out front and was only 5 minutes from Valletta. We walked the streets and the walls of Valletta, visited Museums and the 2nd World War underground Command Centre. On an other day we took the bus and ferry to Gozo and saw the Citadel in Victoria and the ancient temple ruins at Gigantia. We also explored the 3 Cities and the buildings and fortifications built in the 17th Century by the Knights of St. John. On an other day, we bussed to the south side of the island to see the temples at Hagar Qim and to walk the Dingli Cliffs. People are friendly and helpful and speak English. Prices are comparable to what we would pay in Canada. Food, even in fairly expensive restaurants, is not of a high quality; one doesn't go to Malta for gourmet delights. Also, the island is a bit behind North America in smoking regulations; there are none. We would strongly reccommend Malta as a must see destination but I think that one week would be sufficient. In January, the temperature was about 16'C every day and it only rained one day in the late afternoon. I understand it can be very hot in the summer but it is a good place to visit as a winter holiday, provided one doesn't want to go swimming or lay on the beach.
