Great Value A review of The Holland Hotel
The Holland Motor Lodge is positioned directly outside the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. Despite the rumors we had heard regarding traffic noise on the street side, seven lanes of inbound traffic were barely noticable, even during the morning rush-hour. PATH access to the city is within walking distance as well.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, although I would recommend losing the faux wood paneling for future renovations, as this makes the already cozy rooms seem much smaller. The cleaning staff were friendly and quick to meet our needs for such things as extra towels and a roll-away bed.
The front desk staff was friendly and extremely helpful, and smiled often, something you don't often see in the larger budget chain hotels. But the continental breakfast sets the bar. I've stayed at many budget chains, and this was by far the best free breakfast I've experienced. Coffee (available 24 hours), Fresh juice and milk, fresh fruit, including apples, oranges and bananas each morning, doughnuts, pasteries and bearclaws, as well as a choice of cold cereals and hot tea, with plenty of utensils and handy carrying boxes to transport back to your room. There is also a complimentary newspaper, and during our stay, wireless internet access was being installed.
Make no mistake, this is a hotel for the budget-minded. The cable T.V. was tempermental, the rooms are small, and there can be interesting guests in the evening. Security is attentive, however, and parking is plentiful and secure.
Overall, this is the pefect stop to retire to exhausted after a day in the city. Its not a destination, but fufills the role of a clean room, comfortable pillows, and plentiful breakfast to get you on your way for the next day's adventures.
