Great Stay A review of Marriott San Antonio Riverwalk
Stayed at the Riverwalk from 7/19-7/20 (Saturday-Sunday). I had a great stay here. It was tough to find a hotel that actually was a short walk to the Alamodome. Most sites for hotels say that all these hotels in Downtown San Antonio are a short walk to the Alamodome, but the Riverwalk/Rivercenter actually is. The Riverwalk is the hotel I stayed at which is the smaller sister-hotel of the Marriott Rivercenter. The only 2 differences between the Marriott Riverwalk and Marriott Rivercenter is that the Rivercenter is actually connected to the Rivercenter Mall while the Riverwalk isn't. That's okay--it's a short and scenic walk of about 500-1,000 feet away! My preference would be the Riverwalk Hotel over the Rivercenter for the mere fact that it is small and more intimate and not nearly as busy and crowded (I visited the Rivercenter just to see what the difference was).
Check-in was pretty easy although when they say 4:00 is check-in time you better believe it. The good thing is that the hotel gives you a call the minute your room is ready.
The rooms were nice and simple. The view from my room was spectacular!
The view was of Downtown San Antonio and of the river itself so you can watch all the little tour boats go by. There's no screen door which doesn't matter anyway because you'll want to feel the full effect of the airconditioning because it is hot in S.A.! Don't leave the door open either because there will be some really big bugs in your room!
There's a little table with 2 chairs on your balcony if you can go without the A.C. The bathroom's a little small--when you open the door all the way, it actually blocks the half the shower. It's one of those "good for only one person at a time" bathrooms".
The ice machine was broken on my floor and housekeeping told me it always breaks down so I had to go to another floor to get ice. I saw the pool on the 7th floor--it looked a little weird. It's enclosed in this greenhouse-type enclosure with an adjoining room of exercise equipment. There are even some stationary bicycles out near the pool--odd. The pool itself--about 3 feet of it is inside and the rest is outside and there's not much of a poolside. There's just a tall concrete wall you have to probably stand up and look over to get a view.
There's a restaurant downstairs which is just okay and it has a Starbucks inside it. Good thing the hotel is a stone's throw away from the mall where there are lots of choices--just watch the clock because when the mall closes, everything else closes and the only place to eat is the Denny's around the corner.
The management was gracious enough to give us a late check-out without charging us which was really nice. The conceirge and check-in attendants were very pleasant and helpful.
The location of the hotel is key--you have immediate access to a major tourist attraction--the river where you can either go to the Rivercenter Mall, walk along the river and eat next to the water at a cool restaurant, or go on a boat roat. Beware that the Riverwalk/Rivercenter/river area in general is jumping! It can get really, really busy! The lines for the boat ride are always long!
All in all, a great stay!
