Great Spot to Stay! A review of Kalaloch Lodge
Spent 6 nights in cabin #9 on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Excellent view (phenomenal sunsets!), personable staff and good service. As we were celebrating our 20th anniversary, the lodge had placed champagne and glasses in our cabin upon our arrival. Each day a fesh bundle of firewood was delivered, and we eagerly used it in the wood stove during the cool evenings. The cabin has a small refrigerator and coffee maker, so in cabin snacks and lunch foods for picnics are possible although the lodge will pack lunches for you if you let them know in advance. We enjoyed several breakfasts and dinners at the lodge, and the food was great. We highly recommend the steak and the Scallop dishes. It's a short drive to Ruby and Beaches 4, 3, 2, and 1.
I recommend beach 4 during low tide to see ample sea stars and anemones. I also suggest long walks on the beach away from the trail heads as twice I had the privilege of watching sea otters play in the surf. Drive to Lake Quinault and rent a conoe, hike in the Hoh River Rain Forest, and take the free logging tour from Forks. Don't forget to pick the wild blackberries!
