Great Short Break Destination A review of Marriott Ghent Hotel
Visited this hotel after having to re-book due to an accident and first comments are the hotel were terrific, delaying our reservation until our son was well, even though we booked a non-refundable/non-cancellable rate.
On arrival we were very impressed by the property, being modern, clean & minimalist although the canal frontage had remained original which was beautiful.
The rooms were spotless, bright & very modern with flat screen TV, and all the usual amenities.
The location right on the canal side at Korenlei was perfect for all the main sights and a beautiful setting to enjoy this stunning city.
We found the staff a little formal & stiff which may have been to do with the newness of the property but overall it was a great hotel for sightseeing
We didn't use the hotel restaurant as there are far too many places to enjoy in town - these were fantastic as tourism is much smaller scale than nearby Bruges and menus etc were in Flemish (most could translate for us) but the food was much better value than in Bruges
The main sights (cathedrals, belfry, castle etc) were very picturesque and there was enough to see & do for a week long stay.
I would highly recommend Ghent for a break - perhaps it's biggest bonus is the lack of commercial tourism - enjoy it whils it remains this way and if you want the best located base in the city I would highly recommend the Marriott.
