Great setting..... A review of Kalaloch Lodge
Just got back from a few days at Kalaloch Lodge. We were there primarily to hike the Pacific beaches with our kids, and the lodgings in that area are few and far between. Kalaloch could not be situated in a more picturesque place. The views were beautiful, the beaches great fun to explore, and the Hoh rainforest trails were nearby. We explored great tidepools at Second Beach and saw elk herds at the Hoh river.
Downside? The cabins at the Lodge were 2-3 star. Definately old, not refurbished in the last 20 years that I could tell. Old, musty furniture. Cracked, dingy linoleum, frayed stained carpet, spider webs in the corners. The first cabin we were shown reeked strongly of Raid bug spray. The second was better until about 10 p.m, when the neighboring cabin's occupants moved in and proceeded to loudly party until around 3 a.m. We did eat at the restaurant, where the kids learned several new four letter words from a loud kitchen brawl, but the service was otherwise good and the food reasonable.
Bottom line? I'd stay there again - it's better than camping or a motel in Forks, but I'd definately bring earplugs. The kids loved it no matter what, and it was great family time, so..... Go, but spend most of your time outdoors if you can. That's where it's really at.
