Great service, bad rooms A review of Sheraton Columbus at Capitol Square Hotel
I stated here in October 2004. My room rate was very high for a city this size ($290), but it was the only available room in downtown Columbus.
Service was terrific. Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. This is the sort of service that is worth $290. As a business traveler, service is very important to me.
Unfortunatly, the rooms weren't up to par. They look as though they haven't been updated in 15+ years. There are TVs in the bathrooms, but I'm not sure who watches TV while taking a shower. The Room was clean and large, but it was in need of new furnishings. The bed was standard, the chairs were fair, and the decor was dated. The bathroom was also large, but it was bare and charmless. I have seen nicer rooms in Holiday Inns.
I stayed in Regency Level room. From what I can tell, it was a standard room with access to the Regency Club. The Regency Club was nice -- good snacks and an adequate breakfast -- but hardly worth a $25 premium over a regular room.
The location is great if you're working in the downtown area. The common areas (lobby especially) is nice, but a bit cramped. It is convenient to the a mall next door and directly across the street from the state capital. Cab fair to the airport is $20-25, a bargain consider parking is the same price.
The hotel has a good restaurant, but it is a typical overpriced hotel restaurant. The food is quite good.
If you can get in this hotel for $150, it is worth considering. Look around if the rate is more than that.
