Great Service and Convenient Hotel A review of Marriott Salt Lake City University Park

Visited 5-10-05 to 5-12-05. I like this hotel. It is very convenient and the service is both friendly and excellent.

One of the reasons that I like this property is its location. It is located less than 5 miles from downtown Salt Lake City (Temple Square), but does not have any of the hassles of being down town. Parking is complimentary and convenient, something that I like. The lobby is on the 2nd floor and none of the rooms are very far away from anything.

Check was fast, even by Marriott standards, taking about 30 seconds. Everything was in order and I was acknowledged as both a repeat guest and a Marriott Elite member. When I made my reservation I was offered a suite (room 307) for the same price as a regular room and I enjoyed the extra space.

When I got to my room, I noticed that the floor looked like it needed vacuuming. I called the front desk and the housekeeping supervisor was at my door in about one minute. Within 5 minutes my room was vacuumed with a sincere apology for the inconvenience. A gal from guest services called a few minutes later to ask if everything was to my satisfaction. The rest of the room, especially the bathroom was spotless.

The king bed in the bedroom was one of the newer, really comfortable Marriott beds. These are just great. There was a TV/entertainment unit in both the bedroom and the living room. The living room had a "mini kitchen" with a microwave, refrigerator, and bar sink.

The work desk was ample and had STSN high speed internet access for $9.95.

I used the concierge lounge for breakfast both days of my stay. More important to me than saving the cost of breakfast in the restaurant, it is fast. They offered scrambled eggs, bacon, and continental breakfast items both days of my stay. I could take care of breakfast in less than 10 minutes which was of value to me.

There is a Starbucks kiosk in the lobby and a gift shop. Just off the lobby is a sports bar which I have yet to use. Downstairs on the first level is the American Grill, the hotel's restaurant which I also did not use. The pool and whirlpool spa are indoors, but because of the windows, it almost seems like it is outside. There is a small workout room next to the pool which equipment that looks pretty new.

Even though my stay was mid May, it snowed the evening of the 10th and I woke up to something I did not expect. When I went to leave the hotel for the day the bellman asked me if I wanted him to accompany me to my car and clean the snow off of the windows. That helped, because I had neither gloves nor a snow scraper.

Getting to I15/I80 from the hotel takes about 10 minutes, the same as getting just about anywhere downtown. There are a lot of restaurants either on, or just off 4th South, 5-10 minutes from the hotel.

The best recommendation that I can give this hotel is that when in Salt Lake City, I will stay here again.
