Great room! A review of St Mary Lodge, Cabins and Motel
Our room in Great Bear Lodge in September 2004 was gorgeous!!! The decor was amazing - very deliberately picked out. (The extra large chair was particularly appealing!)
We found the staff to be not overly friendly, but it could just be a culture thing. (Most were young people from foreign countries.)
The lodge is in a very convenient spot - accessible to the East Glacier, Two Medicine, Many Glacier, and Waterton areas, and on the end of the Going-To-The-Sun highway. Perfect for day trips/hiking. There's a grocery store next door, laundromat, quick 'grill' for easy lunch and dinner.
The one complaint we had was the noise in the morning - we were surprised to hear the footsteps of the people in the room above us in such a new building. And there was lots of traffic outside our room early in the morning.
Overall, definitely a great place!! After reading reviews of the park hotels, I was willing to spend $200 for a night in a gorgeous, clean room.
