Great restaurant, nice hotel, rude staff A review of Hunt Valley Inn
I recently stayed at the Hunt Valley Marriott for a convention. The rooms are very nice and clean, and the Cinnamon Tree restaurant is fantastic (food and service). However, many of the front desk staff clearly need more training. They were generally uncouth, and lacking in concern for their guests. Most of them did their job as that, a job. There was no pride in providing superior service or going above and beyond the required to smile or wish guests a pleasant day. It was a very cold and odd experience.
In particular, when at 1am, I realized that my phone line was not turned on (and I needed to dial-up to send a very important business document), I called the front desk. Instead of apologizing and turning on my phone immediately, I was told that there was "nothing" the front desk clerk could do for me unless I go down to the front desk (at 1am!). Most other hotels I have stayed at would have acknowledged their mistake, turned on the phone, and asked that I stop by the front desk when I have a moment in the morning to settle any misunderstanding or mistake in their system. It was just a weird and unnecessarily unpleasant experience overall.
Perhaps I've just been very fortunate in all my business and leisure travels; I've encountered staff who took pride in their job in servicing guests. The staff at Hunt Valley Marriott just had bad morale and attitudes, and they just left a bad aftertaste.
