Great Property A review of The Cliffs Resort
The Cliffs in Pismo Beach was the third stop during a 2-week, 6-hotel trip during June and July 2004. (See my reviews of Marriott Fishermans Wharf and Embassy Suites Seaside for the prior hotels visited.) This is a nice property. We rented an ocean view suite and had a nice room, great balcony with lounge chairs so comfortable I considered spending the night on one, and a beautiful view of the ocean. We spent late afternoon at the pool and found the service to be gracious and efficient. We visited the beach in the early evening; steep stairs directly behind the hotel lead to a quiet and beautiful expanse of sand and water. A free taco bar was offered in the lounge from 5 to 7. A light room service dinner was delivered promptly and as ordered. We found a nice deli down the road for take-out breakfast the next morning. The only negatives were: a) a BIG spider crawling around in our room and b) an unsatisfactory check-in experience. (We arrived 15 minutes before 3:00 check-in and were told the room was being cleaned but was not ready; we were told to check back at the front desk in 15-20 minutes. We checked back 30 minutes later, we were not acknowledged by the woman who initially registered us and found from another worker the room was still not ready and that we needed to check back in 30 minutes. Upon our 3rd visit to the front desk..more than an hour after registration... we were told the room was still being cleaned but we could get keys and leave our luggage in the room. Suggestion to hotel: Seek out the guest when the room is ready rather than have the guest continually have to return and stand in line at the front desk. This approach works quite nicely at Four Seasons and similar top-notch hotels.) Outside of check-in and the spider, overall a very good stay, and would rate 5/5 without the check-in problem. Would return. Please contact me if you have any questions. Next stop: Park Hyatt, Los Angeles.
