Great Place to Stay, Wonderful Location! A review of Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown (Union Station)
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza for the July 4th weekend. If you aren't familiar with downtown Indianapolis, be sure to get good directions.
It's not difficult to get around downtown, but when traffic is heavy, it's also not the best time to be looking around trying to find a hotel! The Crowne Plaza's location makes it a little harder to find than some. However, you can't ask for better if you're going to enjoy the downtown area. Steps to shopping, dozens of restaurants and bars, the RCA Dome, Conseco Fieldhouse - it's all within walking distance.
The inside of the hotel is really cool. I loved the fiberglass "ghosts" of passengers in period costumes that are located throughout the hotel.
There is a well stocked gift shop, friendly and helpful concierge, and sharp looking, professional staff who are there to help you with most anything. Any request for assistance was handled quickly. Parking is a bit pricy at $15, but since it includes in and out privileges, it's better if you plan to do a lot of coming and going to utilize the valet rather than paying $8 for self-park with no in and out privileges.
Walking around downtown, however, is simple and you won't need to use your car for much, depending on your plans! So, park smart. The train cars are cool, too. Ask for one of these if you want an extra bit of fun. Kids would especially enjoy them. Indy has a variety of very nice hotels, but I enjoyed my visit to the Crowne much more than others I've been to.
