Great place to stay for ballgames A review of SpringHill Suites North Shore
I drove my father and myself from Indianapolis to stay here over Labor Day weekend. We took in the friday nite and saturday afternoon Cub-Pirates games and then that saturday nite we went to what we came for: ND-Pitt. The North Shore Suites is the perfect location for PNC Park and Heinz Field. It is located right across the street from PNC Park which also holds a few restaurants, and a deli. You also have a sports bar (#1 in Pittsburgh they claim) for partying and the restaurants offer the chance to sit outside and drink a cold one. If you want peace at night make sure you get a room that looks out the front of the hotel. If your room looks out the back you will get an ear-full of music from that sports bar until 2am, I believe. North Shore Suites serves a continental breakfast that offers hot food: make your own waffles in 2 minutes, sausage and eggs. The staff is efficient, professional, and curteous.
PNC Park is beautiful. I believe it is rated the #2 baseball park in america by sports illustrated.
Our hotel was full of Irish fans that weekend and we tailgated with many of them in the North Shore Suites hotel parking lot after the Pirate-Cub game that saturday afternoon. It felt like South Bend. You will be charged $10/day for parking but they do have security. We also had taken a walk down the river-walk to Heinz Field that saturday morning to watch espn's college gameday. Fun.
The rooms are clean and fairly new at the time. You get a small microwave and refridgerator. You will have a desk with internet access, soft chair, couch and a bathroom that is separate from a sink. Also a massage shower-head. Very nice.
All in all, if you plan on going to ball games at either PNC Park or Heinz Field, North Shore Suites is a bargain, price-wise, and extremely convenient. Pittsburgh is, as a city, underrated. You get a beautiful view of that city's skyline while on the river-walk or at PNC Park. I would go back again in a heartbeat. The best sports roadtrip-weekend I've had and North Shore Suites is the perfect location.
ps: I only wish our room didn't overlook that sports bar. Don't make that mistake.
