Great One-Night Stay A review of Westmark Anchorage
My husband and I stayed at the Westmark in May 2004 during our honeymoon. We stayed one night. While reasearching hotels in Anchorage, we found very little information on the Westmark. However, we were very happy with our choice.
We booked directly with the hotel since their rates were much better than what the usual hotel websites were offering.
We arrived at the Westmark around 9pm (cab from the airport was about $8) and breezed through check-in. The staff at the front desk was a highlight of our stay. Our room faced the Cook Inlet, but was a double. Given that we'd been travelling all day, we really didn't care.
The room was quite nice, well decorated, and in good condition. The outside wall was all glass with a nice view. A set of shears and heavy drapes let you determine how much light got in. The room was decorated in darker colors and gave it a very elegant feel. There was a small balcony (room for about two people standing only), but we didn't use it since it was drizzling.
Due to the time change, we were up extremely early the next morning and decided to go for a walk down the coastal trail. The staff at the front desk happily gave us a map, directions, suggestions on which way to head, and additional information about the area. Upon returning and checking out, the bellman assisted us with all of our luggage into a cab and wished us well.
We would recommend this hotel for a two main reasons. First, it was a nice hotel with friendly, helpful staff at a very good rate. Second, it has a great location near the tourist sections of Anchorage, but about a block away so you don't get all of the street noise.
