Great, New Well-Located Hotel A review of Holiday Inn Express Seward Harbor
I was very pleasantly surprised by this new hotel, which opened in 2005. The lobby is attractive. It features a cathedral ceiling over the breakfast area, which has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the harbor. The free help-yourself breakfast included better-than-average coffee and yummy, warm cinnamon buns. The HUGE room could have fit two king beds. I suspect it was so large because it was over the entrance portico -- not a room I requested when I made an online purchase through the Holiday Inn Web site, by the way. The bathroom was also large. More important, it was modern and excetionally clean. Another nice touch in the room: a microwave. The service at the front desk was friendly, but not yet polished or efficient. I didn't use the itiny indoor pool. The hotel's location is excellent. It is less than a five-minute walk from the train "station" and is also very close to the departure point for harbor tours. One of the businesses off the hotel lobby focuses on tours of and transport to Exit Glacier, which is convenient if you do not have a car.
