Great location, not so great service A review of Tivoli Lodge
Our stay at the Tivoli Lodge was Feb 13-17. While our stay was not horrendous, we won't stay at the Tivoli again. Our village view room and its bath were a decent size, with nice wood trim and dark curtains to keep the sun out(not the sound of the garbage man at 5:30am each day). The room only had heat and we found ourselves cracking the window often. The hallways looked like an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog with all the plaid carpet. The Tivoli itself has a comfy sitting area on the first floor, withh a large fireplace. The complementary breakfast was a buffet that had people swarming around it. There are two hot tubs that offer nice views of the mountain that are opened from appx 10:30am to 9pm. All of this superficially makes this a wonderful hotel, then you throw in the service and the hotel is only average. I tipped a front desk person for booking the airport shuttle (appx 45$ to Eagle/Vail airport). He was going to call me back with our pickup time. He never made the reservation! We ended up having a friend shuttle us to the airport that is about 35 miles away. On top of that when the people brought his car around (15$ a day parking), there was a girl(that didnt have hotel attire on in the passenger seat). The staff, though plentiful, did not make any effort to make sure your stay was going well. It was a constant of these little things(slippers that never came, power outage on the 4th floor, etc) that really began to irk us.
The location of the hotel is great to the village and 2 of the ski lifts. (Both are a 2 minute walk). We had a great time dog sledding with Mountain Mushers, and snowmobiling with Piney River Ranch.
When you stay at Tivoli Lodge as long as you dont count on service, you will have a decent time. Its unfortunate that the employees can bring the overall impression of the hotel to make it just average. Maybe we expected too much.
