Great location, good service, funky resort A review of Compass Point Beach Resort

First, travelers beware. Do not book with Compass Point via VHR Worldwide. My wife and I had the "run around" with VHR. The real booking agency is Island Outpost (look them up on Google) or better yet contact Compass Point directly - you'll be glad you did.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights from Jan 3rd - Jan 6th, 07. We had just spent 7 nights on Cat Island at Sammy T's Resort (review also posted).

We stayed in a seaview studio. Because we were in #1, we were really close to the restaurant, pool and internet cafe; at night it made it a little difficult to get to sleep. The windows are slat storm shutters with bug screens, so you can never really "shut out" the world. It wasn't unpleasant though.

We loved the Junkanoo colors of the resort. The floors are natural wood with white-washed walls. Bathroom is awesome (my wife's words). The tile shower has a raised slat wood floor. Stocked with Aveda toiletries (including shampoo).

The flat panel LCD TV was a nice treat, had local channels from LA to NYC. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were good quality. Lots of closet space. Room had an iron, ironing board, and hair dryer.

Inside the large closet was a sink with a compact refrigerator and coffee pot. The sink area wasn't clean at all, but since we didn't use it, we just closed the door and forgot about it.

Since the resort had been open only a short time, Linda, the GM, seemed like she was always working. She was very accomodating and tried to make sure our stay was without problems. The restaurant had good food and was quick to serve; great outdoor and indoor bar, both have large screen LCD TV's. We enjoyed the view of the ocean from our porch too.

My wife jumped into the hot tub and pool, she said it was very nice. After walking around the property and seeing the other accomodations, we wished we could've stayed in a seaview hut or something better than then what we got.

Hotel staff was very polite and did not balk at any request, from changing money to hailing a taxi.

We recommend this to anyone not wanting to be stuck in the Sandals, Atlantis, or downtown area. If you're here for the nightlife, probably should be comfortable taking a taxi or just stay at a place closer to downtown.
