Great location for Siesta Key without High Price A review of BEST WESTERN PLUS-Gateway Siesta Key
We stayed, two of us, there for 9 days. Great location without being on the beach. Can walk to siesta key. Although you would want to take a car for the beach. Siesta Key has the large famous beach, but we like the small Turtle beach better. No parking problems because most people go to the large one. Also good reasonable turtles restaurant is down there. The hotel rooms were smaller than most Holiday Inns Expresses, especially the newer ones. We also got a room over the parking lot and behind a stair well which made the room damp and dungy. I went looking for a room around the pool side and found one still empty and requested a change. They complied. We checked in around 4:20 and most were already checking in. The price has gone way up in Feb 2004, to back to before 9/11, 2001 prices, which were higher before the attacks.
However, service was good. Always found fresh towels and toiletries.
even when we took towels to beach and room was always cleaned even with the sand, and mess. Pool was best. Pool was heated above body tempature. Great after hiking. Jacuzii was large and tiled and above the pool temparature. Still was chilly in end of February. Felt good at evening to swim or just stand in pool. Showers were lousy with water pressure. Buffet was good, but you need to get down there by 8:30 to get seat. Pool area was quiet enough. More older people and couples were there. Very few young kids. TV good, some reception problem, but 27" and good remote. Bathroom very small and only one sink. I have been in newer holiday inn expresses, especially the one in SF, Ca. which I thought was tops and large for price. This one was not the size I would imagined, but they did get two double beds in, but hard to walk around.
This had to be an older hotel. Also the entrances were in outside like a motel, but there was a cover to lobby, both back and front and their were two elevators to 4 floors so it was easy to get to rooms.
