Great Location for large groups A review of Victoria Regent Hotel
We booked into this hotel because my family of three was meeting up with extended family members in Victoria and needed the space. We also wanted the cooking facilities to avoid having to eat out every meal. While on the expensive side, the two-bedroom suite was an excellent choice for our needs. There was plenty of space, the room faced the habour and avoided all the noise problems and the kitchen was well-equipped with full-sized appliances. We used the dishwasher everyday and the stove for pizza one night.
The location was fabulous...walking distance to everything. We were able to come back for lunch or a rest and meet up with others to go out again.
We were lucky that the weather this weekend was great...warm during the day and cool/cold at night. Made sleeping very comfortable and we could keep our windows closed. The ferry, bush plans, train and even birds could get noisy, but it was fine with the windows closed. I could see why a/c in this hotel would alleviate several of the problems I read in early reviews. The Folkfest was on, but finished by 10pm so we weren't disturbed by any late night music or crowds. The beds were the most comfortable I've slept on out of the five hotels we stayed at during our vacation.
My only complaint was that the room cleaning service seem to take place late in the afternoon for our floor. After a day at Buchart Gardens, some of our family had to rest and that meant we missed our cleaning for that day. I would have preferred it in the morning as everyone was out.
There is no Wi-Fi in the suite...it's cable modem which meant our laptop had to stay in one place (on a side table having moved the CD stereo). Abit inconvenient, but not a problem.
This is the first hotel I've stayed in where the free continental breakfast includes a request for a gratuity...and we got and put our own dishes away.
All in all, this was the best hotel for our needs. If we were to come back with a large group, we'd definitely stay here again.
