Great Hotel A review of Hotel Moscow (Moskva)
The Hotel Moskva is a huge hotel at the end of Nevsky Prospect (the main street in St. Petersburg). It is ideally positioned above a metro station for ease of travelling around the city. I have stayed there twice now (July 02 and Nov 03) and have found on both occasions the staff to be helpful and curteous. It is a tourist class hotel and as such you get what you pay for, but the rooms are clean and tidy with en suite bathrooms, TV's, fridges, safety deposit boxes, etc. Although the rooms are hot, this tends to be the case in most russian places and not all hotels of this class have air-conditioning, but each room has a fan and windows that open - by the way, the bridges in St Pete's go up at night so no traffic noise then!! The breakfast buffet is amazing approx 20 metres of every kind of food you desire, cereals, freshly made blinis, yoghurt, fish, cold meats and breads and many more wierd and wonderful options so something for everyone. There is a currency exchange on site, along with a casino, gift shops, pool room and post office for your postcards home. There is also a great facility where you can book tickets to the theatre or tours round the city or taxis which proved to be reliable and clean. Over the road is the cemetary where Tchaikovsky and Dostoyevsky are buried, along with many other russian poets/writers/composers, etc. which is worth a look round. I would recommend anyone to stay here who is looking for a reasonably priced hotel with good facilities and transport to the city.
