Great hotel; friendly staff. Service? Not quite there yet. A review of Magnolia Hotel Houston

I have stayed here 3 times. I love the hotel. Great location, beautiful, comfortable rooms, fantastic decor (nice bar, good gym), and the staff is as friendly as all get-out. Unfortunately, it still hasn't been able to get its act together.

Examples: Lost room service meal (not charged for this meal, though); late room service meals; assignment to room already occupied (ended up OK, though: asked for and got an upgrade to a suite); no knife to slice berries ordered with cereal; no maid service one day; difficulty locating concierge; outside restaurant with no record of reservation made by concierge.

I travel to Houston often and I want to stay here again, and I will.

After all, despite its faults, it is still better than most hotels, overall, and they are trying -- really, really trying! (Great valet parking staff -- efficient and friendly.) But I think I'll give it a few more months to figure it all out and try out one of the other new downtown hotels the next couple of times.
