Great hotel, disappointing experience A review of The Westin Houston Downtown
This hotel is beautiful, rich decor and great rooms. I am not a baseball fan and was very pleased with the appearance of the hotel.
Overall, the service was good, but only if you don't need anything in particular. We stayed in this hotel the weekend of a major sporting event in Houston. We requested late check out when we made the reservation, and we were told they would request it. Upon check-in they stated that there was no possibility for late check out at the hotel due to an expected influx of business travelers the next day. The next morning I asked about late check-out again, and they said no, because all of their late check out slots had been filled that morning. I told her this was not what I had been told the day before, and expressed my frustration. She did offer to extend our stay by 1 hour, but at this point I was ready to leave.
My husband (along with a number of other hotel guests participating in the sporting event) requested an early breakfast, and they said they would 'try' to get there early. They did open early (30 minutes after they had said), but with (very) limited service.
We requested a crib (when I made the reservation and at check-in) but it never arrived. All extras cost extra, $20 per night for valet only parking and a hefty price for a modest breakfast. The valets left an ink mark on the interior of my car door from a pen they had in their hand while getting in/out of my car.
If you are a low maintenance business traveler, this is a great hotel. The entire time the staff was very professional. I would stay here if I was on business, but I would not bring my family again. This hotel clearly will not go the extra mile to meet their customer's needs.
