Great for families and business travelers! A review of HYATT house Emeryville/San Francisco Bay Area
We stayed here for 4 nights on a family vacation (We have a 6 year old and a 3 year old) and had a great stay! The majority of people we saw were here on business, but there were a few families there as well. The hotel looked relatively new, and was clean.
We stayed on the side facing the railroad tracks, and this was the greatest thing in the world for our 3 year old. He spent much of his stay looking out the window at the trains going by. Yes, you can hear the trains from the hotel, but there weren't many after 9 or 10 pm. It wasn't loud enough to wake any of us up.
Below is a run down of what exactly they have available.
Living room: Work desk with a ethernet hookup for internet access, fold out couch, coffee table, and TV with VCR AND DVD player (There is a library in the main lobby where VHS and DVD movies are available for free rental. There were about 100 movies available.)
Bedroom: We stayed in a room with two double beds. Beds were comfortable. There was no dressers for storing clothes.
Kitchen: There is a full size refrigerator/ freezer, microwave/ convection oven, stove, coffeemaker and a small dishwasher. you don't need to bring your own dishwashing detergent, as a dishwashing tablet is provided each day. Paper towels are also in the kitchen. There is a set of dishes, pots, pans, cups and mugs available.
Food/ drink: They had a buffet available in the mornings. Since we stayed for 4 nights, we got to try everything. Scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, hash browns, oatmeal, fresh fruit, pastries, toast, muffins. A couple of mornings, they had make your own waffles. The food was adequate, but we got tired of it by the last morning. There was also a weeknight reception with drinks and snacks (chips/ pretzels) which we didn't go to.
Pool: Nice and warm. Jacuzzi available too, which we didn't use. Took a quick look in the exercise area adjacent. It was small, but they had the standard treadmill, weights, etc.
Other amenities: The business center had two computers available for free internet access, xerox machine, and a fax machine. Free newspapers on weekdays, and in the business center there was a sign over a closet area to let you "choose your own pillows". Next to the front desk was a tiny "store" where they had ice cream, microwave meals, and drinks and wine. Parking is free- there's a large lot behind the hotel, adjacent to the train station.
Shops/ Shuttle services: The hotel has a shuttle available, where they will drive you within a couple mile radius if you give them a couple hours notice.
Emeryville also has a free shuttle that goes to the BART station, as well as the local shops. The pickup spot for this shuttle (called the Emery Go Round) is in front of the hotel.
The shops are actually within walking distance (5-20 minutes, depending on what shops you want to go to.) There is a bookstore next to the parking lot; the Emeryville Public Market is there too- it's a bunch of food stalls in a warehouse setting, where they have anything from fish and chips, to Thai, Korean, and Vietnamese food.
Housekeeping was great!
Tourist tip: If you're going to Fisherman's Wharf/ Pier 39, take the ferry from Jack London Square in Oakland, as opposed to driving in. Awesome city views for only $5.50 each way.
