Great for everyone!! A review of Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre
My partner and I travelled to this hotel on 15Feb05 for, unfortunatly, only one night.
We were looking for a budget hotel to explore the city from so were pleasently surprised when we arrived at this great hotel. The lobby was lovely, large, airy, marble and spotlessly clean. Check- in staff were fantastic and very helpfull. The room was quite small but perfect for us with a lovely full bathroom and comfortable bed and good heating (being feb it was freezing outside!).
We didnt use the gym but the sauna and relaxation room on floor 29 were great, the sauna is huge and we were lucky enough to be the only people in it. The sun was just setting as we went in so the view over the city was fantastic as it became to light up. There are lots of showers just outside of the sauna and single sex changing rooms with showers and lockers too.
The bar in the hotel was busy untill late and has lovely comfy sofas, the beer isn't too expensive but spirits are, gin and lemonade cost over £7. (10 euro)
Breakfast was the best I've had in Europe, so much choice. I'm a vegetarian and found lots from scrambled egg and cheese on toast to bread rolls waffles, pastries, yogurt ,fruit , cereal etc and my partner had mainly sausage, bacon and egg in french stick. Also plenty of orange juice hot chocolate and various tea's and coffees.
The road the hotel is on is a little dissapointing but you litteraly cross the road and your in a great shopping area and also right near the Grand Place which is beautifull, where there are lovely cosy bars and restaurants. We travelled around the whole city so easily from this hotel. Next to the hotel on the left there is a building called metropolitan plaza or shopping? if you go in and head down it leads you to the correct underground tram system which runs through the city right down to the Eurostar station which only takes about 10-15 minutes max. On departure day we left our luggage at the hotel and went off to explore as it's so quick to get back to from anywhere. Get off at 'bours' for the grand place and st gily where there are some trendy bars open allday 'till late. The metro is also very good and brings you out directly opposite the hotel or in the same shopping plaza depending which exit you take. Whether you are using the tram or the metro the stop you need for the hotel is 'Rogier'. A day ticket to use all transport only cost 6.50 euro (£4.50) for both of us! Just get a map of the city and underground system and explore!!! Would stay at this hotel anytime I was in brussels whether for leisure or bussiness as had a great time. would say it's more of a 4star than a three.
