Great experience here A review of Outrigger Fairway Villas
My family of 6 travels a lot and we have stayed in a lot of places. This was one of the nicest places we have stayed. Somehow we lucked out and got a 3 bedroom end unit (had to be at least 1200+ SQ FT) instead of one of the 2 bedroom interior units that we had reserved. Talking to folks around the BBQ's at night, it sounded like that was a common occurance during the week in August that we were there. We also heard that the 2 BR units are significantly smaller. The golf course views are great, the Kings Shops are close enough to walk to, yet generated very little noise. A very interesting petroglyph field was right next to the resort and I enjoyed walking through it in the mornings and taking pictures. The furnishings were very upscale for a rental condo, especially the kitchen and appliances (Granite and GE Profile). Kitchen stocking was pretty basic for the overall caliber of the place, though. Central AC was a very welcome (and quiet) upgrade from typical window units. We could sit out at the large table on our patio at night and listen to the little birds while watching the sunset over the large pond separating the resort from the shops. The pool is small by resort standards, but wasn't usually too crowded when we were there. The hot tub could get croweded at night as did the 3 BBQ's out by the pool. Housekeeping was ok, but we did experience an issue mentioned in another review in that they either showed up at 8 am sharp or very late in the day. The location is very nice, but if you shop with us mere mortals (that is, not at Kings Shops prices) it can be a long drive to Kona. Recommendation if you are a large party staying here - shop at the Costco in Kona for groceries when you get in from the airport and then drive up. I was amazed that their prices were almost the same as they are at home. The pool at the Marriott (where you have priveldges) was a little more interesting with a small water slide that was open off and on, but much more crowded. We loved this place and would look forward to staying here again. The only issue would be if I was willing to pay the significant upcharge to reserve a 3 bedroom or if we would be just as happy in a 2 BR unit.
