Great condo, lousy location A review of Massanutten Resort
In June 2002 my husband and I exchanged a week through RCI - we were booked in one of the two-story condos. Huge whirlpool tub, steam sauna on the downstairs floor, two bedrooms/baths upstairs. We were booked for at least one king bed but instead had a double - that's tough when you're not used to such a small bed, but it was also horribly soft. We slept on the sofas downstairs the last two nights. Overall the condo, though, was very well-outfitted and clean.
We made the mistake (we were newbies at the time) of agreeing to come to their RCI breakfast and tour. Good grief - we spent a half day with a rep who drove us around the resort in her filthy minivan full of used babywipes, toys, carseats, fast food containers and wrappers - all in the name of $100 in "Massanutten Money". What suckers we were!!!!!! Don't fall for it - the new condos we saw were higher up the mountain and had gorgeous views, were very nicely decorated and would be an ideal fit for family gatherings or several couples. The sales reps need some polish though.
As for the town, we were extremely disappointed. Shopkeepers were rude and rarely spoke to you, watched you like they thought you were going to shoplift and there was very little in the way of entertainment. I don't need to go clubbing every night but to have been a college town, this place had nothing.
We are avid hikers and found the Shenandoah Valley to be hot, muggy and bug-ridden. Some nice waterfall hikes but not worth going back to.
