Good value A review of Baymont Inn & Suites Galveston
My family stayed there after locating it on Galveston.com. Basically because of it being less than one year old and the rates were introductory (lower). $99 for a 2 queen bed room w/balcony. Check in was easy, hotel was clean and accessable.
Room was spacious and nice but the balcony was just a selling point, as you only have a view of the Super 8 to the east and a vacant lot and hotels on the west side. A different design where you could actually view the gulf without leaning your head over the balcony and look south past the Comfort Suites would have been much better. The hotel is surprisingly quiet (except for hotel guests who seem to not care if you are sleeping when they are laughing and running in the hallway, but I find this in most hotels). Did not hear any traffic from outside and only the thunderstorm when it came through.
Breakfast room was too small to accomodate. Major hassle in the morning as 'everyone' was milling around, blocking access to foods, and not enough tables or chairs to make it reasonable. Breakfast bar was okay for continental - the usual.
We did use the hottub two evenings and it was fine, large enough for a good size group, but the pool was very cold so we did not use it. Would be nice if they could put up some kind of barrier between pool and Super 8, as a group of folks on the 2nd balcony of the Super 8 stayed out to "observe" the pool occupants each night - at times making comments. Prison parolee behavior to be sure. Also, "guest card access only" to the pool (it only has an outside latch that anyone could access) would be good, as I witnessed two people in the hot tub leave - get in their car down the end of of the parking lot and drive off. It was apparent they were not guest.
Staff was okay but casual, non professional overall. Not complaint - just not image conscious. Young man with gold suzuki car who worked there spent a considerable amount of time working on his stereo system in the parking lot (yes - this meant testing his big boom bass at customer listening expense) with his homeboys with him. Unseemly for a potentional customer.
Was good value for the price on Galveston Island, but I might check into the Comfort Inn next time and see what its like.
