Good value for great location A review of Hotel Residence Mala Strana
Just got back from our first visist to Prague. On arriving at the Hotel Residence we were told we had no room for the night due to a double booking. However, the hotel was most apologetic and offered us a room in their sister hotel on the other side of the river for the night. They paid for the taxi ride to and from the alternative hotel as well as offering us two complimentary tickets for the Grand City Tour. It was clear that the hotel was trying to make ammends for their mistake. After the inital hiccup, and once in the hotel we found it to be clean, well located for all the sights (we never needed to take public transport) and very well priced.
Its best attribute is the location, with a 10min walk to Charles Bridge (which can be done via Kampa Island, alongside the river) and about another 5-10 mins to the old square/Prague Castle. The funicular that takes you up to Petrin Hill is about 3 mns walk away. The hotel is located in Mala Strana, the quiet quarter which offers a welcome respite from the tourist hoardes found on the other side of the river. The area also has some excellent eateries, such as Olympia, Bohemia Bagel and my favourite, the fish restaurant Rybarsky Klub, a 5 min walk away on Kampa island.
Good choice hotel, which i would use again when i hopefully return to Prague.
