Good Value but don't let the '4 star quality at 3 star prices' fool you.... A review of Holiday Inn Vail

This property is located across the interstate from Lionshead/Vial Village on the north side of I-70. It is respectable, but certainly not anything special. You are paying for value for the location. They do have one computer terminal set up with high speed online access and free coffee in a small lobby. The property is in the same building as a casual diner type place more popular with locals/experienced tourists. It is also located adjacent to a strip mall that contains a liqour store, Subway, McDonalds and Taco Bell. A full size grocery store is slightly farther down but still walkable.

We arrived peak season (between X Mass & NYE) they had the room we requested as far as # of beds but it was a smoking room, luckily, it did not bother anyone in our group but they should have had their act together better than that. Rooms are nothing special but adequate, laundry on each floor IS nice.

Hot tub is small and usually crowded with college aged kids with coolers.

This property is ideal for a cost conscience family/anyone who can forgo the romance of staying in the Village and wants something functional over something in the Village at 3X the cost. If you go to Vail to truly ski, not to shop, go to spas or to be seen, then this is your type of place.

The bus/shuttle system is adequate, althogh the stop by the main bus (as opposed to the shuttle operated by the hotel) requires navigating down a dangerous hill when snowy.

There is no need to drive your vehicle into the Village each morning...and no need to even have a vehicle for that matter....

Not as scenic as the village itself, but a very smart, close option that is better than staying in Leadville or another town down I-70. The amount of affordable places in the village is dwindling if not already extinct, this is a good option around that.

If you have been to Vail multiple times and don't have a time share/condo and have to do a hotel, this is probably about as cheap as you are going to get within 5 minutes of the Mountain...
