Good place to stay! A review of Banting House Inn
The Banting House B and B is a GOOD place to stay in Toronto. It's 3 blocks off Yonge St, just North of the Eaton Center area. Easy to get anywhere in town from this location and the bus to the wonderful Toronto subway is less than a 1 block walk or you can walk the 3 blocks to Yonge and get the subway from there. Cab is $5-7 CAN ($3.50-5 US) ride to anywhere in central downtown and the Toronto cabs do not charge extra for 2+ riders. Cab from airport should be same as to a downtown hotel. Paul, the host, made us very welcomed, from the moment we pulled up. We were a party of three, a family. The neighborhood is old, and interesting. The house is also old and architechturally interesting and was actually a tad smaller than I expected from the website, however the site photos are accurate. They are still working on it. The breakfast is cooked to order from the usual morning options and was abundant and delicious. Good coffee. The daily homemade bread (toast) with fresh real butter and jam made by Paul's mother is divine. Available from early to nearly noon. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The Banting House is good however it is not "upscale" - don't take that as a negative, as it is equivalent to a good 3 star hotel and is a good place to stay, and few B and B are upscale even if their website makes them look that way. Banting is clean, secure, and offers a strong feeling of home and relaxation. The on-site parking is tight, but they move the cars for you so no worry. Lucy, the house dog, is delightful, but will leave you alone if you don't want her around. No elevator but Paul will get your bags up and down if you mention wanting help. The strongest point of the Banting House is the host, the warm and comfortable feeling, and the good feeling in the house. My teens loved it. Paul was just very nice, genuine, glad to have you in his house. Paul is glad to help you make plans. He was fun to talk with at breakfast, and does his darndest to make your stay ffy as a cloud. My daughter kept smelling them, they were so nice. We will return. Check them out, they have rooms in all prices. I figure not paying $17-23 CAN ($14-18 US) a day for hotel parking (as I did earlier that week) and a huge breakfast are worth quite a bit. We looked into some of the rooms, and the internet photos are pretty accurate. The back yard is a bit less lovely than the photo, but in fairness we were there in the cold and muddy season between winter and spring and not much looks as well as it will in the summer or covered in clean snow. Paul said they have a weekly rate and if I had to be somewhere in Toronto for a week or two, the Banting would be an excellent choice. We stayed 2 days and wish it had been longer.
