Good location! A review of Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center

I won a bid at this hotel for July 21, 2004. We didn't have time to roam the city so I cannot comment too much about the area. Although it is not directly off the highway, we found it without difficulty with the directions from the hotel. The hotel has parking on site; we paid $17.00 per day. I believe this included in/out privileges but we kept the car in it's spot. The parking is actually underneath the hospital next door. The hospital and the hotel share a common driveway.

We arrived at 12:30 and the room was not ready. We were given a ticket to enter the garage so that we could take their (free) shuttle to Carnegie Mellon University. The shuttle also goes other places; the driver was very accommodating and helpful. The hotel is within walking distance from the University if you know where you are going. The driver showed the way (and the landmarks) on the way to the University so we walked back. It took us about 15 minutes to walk and it was quite hot/humid that day.

We returned at about 4:00 p.m. The room was ready and there were no problems at check in. No mention of Priceline. I asked for (and received) a two bedded non-smoking room away from the elevator. The room was clean. It had a table and chairs which we used for dinner. It was roomy enough, but not really 'roomy'. It contained a coffee maker with coffee and tea in the room. There is a pool and exercise room but we did not use it. Also, there is a business center there which is free to use. We did utilize it to make a photo copy and to catch up online. There are two computers in the room for guests to use. The business center was either open 24/7 or very late as we never saw it closed. If you have your own computer, internet access is *free* in your room.

There had been a fire in the hotel restaurant the previous evening so we could not eat dinner there. However, they opened the ball room for a free continental breakfast for all guests the next morning. It was a very nice breakfast, too.

No problems on check out and no long line either. Very helpful with directions too.

I would recommend this hotel if you desire this area of the city and don't need a luxury hotel. It was perfect for our situation of one day to tour the college.
