Good Location, minus points for renovation A review of Doubletree Hotel Houston Downtown
Just stayed at the Doubletree Allen Center last weekend for business. This property is located on the Western edge of downtown with direct access to the Houston "tunnel system". They do have a downtown shuttle, so transportation is readily available.
The night I was there (St. Patrick's Day), the shuttle was very busy so took the walk down to the entertainment district (Main St.). It's an easy walk, but I was approached by AT LEAST four homeless folks.
Back to the hotel; because they are in the middle of renovation, the front desk had one check-in lane. The staff are definitely making the best of a tough situation. Everyone was kind, courteous and they were utilizing the concierge desk for additional check-in. Lobby/elevator area is still a throwback to the 70's, hopefully the construction crew will eventually make it down from 12th floor.
Business center was a positive experience. Well equipped with business machines and fully staffed. Internet charges were a little steep at $6.25 per quarter hour.
Room was well appointed with brand new suite dreams bedding. Bathroom was very nice with updated fixtures/tile, etc. I would recommend this hotel, only caveat is the valet department. They are very aggressive, not very helpful, and they cost $20.00 per day.
