Good for a short break A review of The Aquincum Hotel Budapest
We stayed for 2 nights 20-22 Feb 2005. The hotel was graded a five star
but i would put at 4 star. Check in seemed to go on for ages and service was a bit ok..ish! I do expect more from 5 star "luxury". The thermal pools in the spa are included in the room rate which was a fantastic end to the day pounding the streets. Breakfast was average but adequate, nothing grand or varied as one would expect. The hotel is not close to the city centre but is easily accessible by the HEV (green) train which runs from just outside the hotel. Expect to see a lot of suits - primarily due to this being an excellent place to hold conferences or conduct business meetings. I cant help but feel that after discovering where the Hilton was (next door to Matthias Church on Castle Hill) and the Intercontinental (Pest Side but facing the Danube) we perhaps had made the wrong choice. Or for sheer grandness try the Gresham Palace hotel for luxury!! Would stay at Aquincum again but only if in town to do business or to chill out in the spa and not do anything else.
