Good enough for a first US visit A review of Embassy Suites Indianapolis - Downtown

This goes back a couple of years to June 2000. For my first trip to the US I was booked into the Embassy Suites, my body clock was at 11 pm when we arrived, but I survived the check in process and was wide enough awake to notice you can get Hilton Honors at the Embassy Suites.

I had not realised that, being in the US, this was a tall hotel (16 floors) and I do not like heights. Plus the elevator has glass sides and there is an open balcony from the elevator to the room, so there is nowhere to hide. The view from the room was great as long as I didn't look down! I got over this after a few days.

The room itself was very large and good value with free coffee. Everything worked, although some cupboard doors were not straight. TV, radio, several hand basins.

Location was excellect, walking access straight across to the downtown mall, and good restaurants nearby, I particularly remember the Palomino. We ate in the hotel bar the first night, the barman was particularly friendly, but not too much. Breakfast was standard US fare, cereals, eggs, streaky bacon. There was a happy hour so we would head back after work and talk over the days events in the bar.

There was a pool but there was some interesting stuff floating on the surface so I tried it quickly and didn't go back.

If I went again I'd try somewhere else for variety, but I would not be against another Embassy Suites stay some time.
