Good choice for the money A review of El Greco Hotel
My girlfriend and I stayed at the El Greco for 3 nights. Considering the room was $85, I thought it was a good deal. The lobby and courtyard area are very nice....blooming flowers, nice pool, tables/chairs, etc. I thought it had a lot of character. The rooms are very basic....we had a room with two beds by the pool. But, it had what we needed....beds, a bathroom, tv, and air conditioning. It was clean, but very worn. It did grow on us by the end of the trip. And, we didn't spend that much time in the room anyway. As far as the neighborhood was concerned, I didn't think it was that bad. Certainly wasn't the nicest neighborhood, but I didn't feel unsafe....and we walked back from downtown at 1am one night. Now, I wouldn't have walked around by myself at night, but that's true of a lot of places. I think for the money, it's a good buy. So if you're looking for a place to stay on a budget...within walking distance of downtown, and a quick bus ride to Cable Beach, this is your hotel. If you're looking for posh and upscale, look elsewhere.
About Nassau in general....we had a great time. We went to Cable Beach (you can access it through the Nassau Beach Hotel and use their chairs at no cost), Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island (a beautiful beach with fairly large waves...can rent a beach chair/umbrella....we took the water taxi over to PI, but a regular taxi back to Nassau), and we took the Flying Cloud catamaran trip. We went on the 5 hour Sunday trip, and it was great. It includes snorkeling, lunch, and beach time on Rose Island. Very nice and relaxing. We also checked out Senor Frogs.....lots of younger people, and excellent people watching...especially if you enjoy watching drunk people making fools of themselves! We also ate at Twin Brothers at the fish fry. It's located in a strip of locally owned restaurants down the street from the hotel. Good food!
