Good-but still a work in progress A review of Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa
I took my 12 year-old daughter and a friend to the Morongo for a weekend. I chose the Morongo because an online deal made it affordable, and it was close to the Cabazon outlet mall--all the activity the girls wanted. The room was heavenly--a stunning view of the mountains, very comfortable beds, a beautiful and spacious bathroom, and very clean. We found the service really good and the staff quite accomodating. I had a heavenly massage in the spa. The facility is basic but lovely, and the massage therapist was very experienced and talented. The pool area is fantastic! There's a lazy river and water slide, as well as a large pool and a smaller, kiddie pool with fountains. The pool was heated and very comfortable. There are cabanas and abundent lounge chairs, including a row that sits in the shallow end of the pool itself.
Since I did not go there to gamble, I was a little put off by the casino, which take the place of a lobby at the Morongo. There is a lot of noise and smoke, exactly what you'd expect of a casino. Because of the casino and gambling, the movements of the kids were very closely watched by the extensive security force. For instance, the kids could not leave the pool area to go to the room without me, even to grab a forgotten item, even with a room key. This restriction makes Morongo a difficult choice for families. The buffet dinner was affordable ($25 for me, $7 each for the kids) and perfectly acceptable. The cafe was awful, and we sent food back (even fresh fruit, which was rotten). Room service breakfast (big treat for the kids) was much better.
I'm sure I will go back. My daugher and her friend thought it was heaven.
