Good, basic accomodation A review of The Holland Hotel
I stayed here with my husband for six nights in October. The staff at reception were very helpful and courteous. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. Everything was kept clean and towels refreshed daily. Bathroom facilities were good and excellent shower (once I'd worked out how to use it!). Breakfast of baked goods, cereals and fruit were more than adequate and it was good to have hot drinks available all day. The fridge in the room was of great use and a microwave was available if you needed it.
Nearby was the Newport Mall and a selection of restaurants (Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Indian and a bar) on Washington Boulevard. We ate in three of these (recommend the Mexican "Ole Ole Ole" and the $2 Margaritas).
The PATH train service from Pavonia/Newport was a five-ten minute walk and proved to be an excellent way to get to Manhattan taking you right up to 33rd Street (where you can find Macy's and a block over, The Empire State building) and was economical at $1.50 each way.
I would have no qualms about staying at this motel again. Definitely good for those on a budget wanting to see New York.
