Fun and relaxing lodging - just plan for the drive to the Valley A review of Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort
We just got back from a 2 night stay at the Yosemite Bug. Upon first arrival we were uncertain of the clientele but soon adapted and found the rustic ambiance very relaxing.
Our group stayed in 4 different private rooms with private baths in the Wawona & Sentential Buildings. All 4 rooms were comfortably furnished and very clean. Some of the décor was a little wild but it can be kind of fun for just a few nights. All rooms were updated with fresh paint and unique fabrics. They certainly would not be considered luxurious but they were very functional and comfortable.
As the other reviews mentioned, the food was very good. We did notice some inconsistency between meals (like cuts and doneness of steaks) but decided to eat there both nights and didn't regret it. They offer Guinness Stout on tap and Bogle wine by the glass or bottle which we really liked. They were very busy so some of the staff seemed a little overworked and probably not as chipper as other days, but generally we found them to be very helpful The main drawback aside from driving the short distance on a dirt road to get to the Bug is driving the not-so-short distance to get to the valley. Those 45 minutes felt very long on the way back after a tiring day of hiking. If you plan on driving to the valley up HWY140 on a Saturday I would recommend leaving as early as possible as you may encounter a long wait in line just to get through the park gates. We got to the main gate at 9:45 am and waited about 20 minutes in line, while a waitress at the Ahwahnee said it took her 45 minutes to an hour to get through at 10:45 am. One other warning- there is a healthy amount of poison oak growing around trail to the ridge on the Yosemite Bug's property. 1 out our group of 7 came home with a nasty rash. But if you are careful the hike was worth checking out.
