Formal, not stuffy...Hip, not trendy.... A review of Oud Huis De Peellaert

While researching our trip, I noticed the mid March opening of this hotel coincided with our visit to Brugge so we decided to give it a try...The thought of sleeping on brand new mattresses was very appealing...

Simply put...the hotel is spectacular...The location is unbeatable and the renovation of the mansion is superb...and the appointments are extremely nice. We had a deluxe room with high ceilings, a huge antique armoire (with its own skeleton key!!!) a crystal chandelier; and those brand new beds...

Breakfast was included in our price...and was easily the best we had during our two weeks in Europe...The buffet featured large platters of varied cheeses, 3 types of ham, boiled eggs, 2 types of cereal, croissants and pastries, fresh fruits, orange and grapefruit juice...and of course, coffee and tea...all served in a bright, light and airy room overlooking a courtyard...I imagine one can eat in the courtyard during the warmer months.

The public areas are lovely...and somewhat formal with satin covered wing chairs and love seats...There is a very pleasant but small lounge/bar with a nice Belgian beer selection and artsy, but classic, black and white photos of screen, music and sports legends such as Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, Louis Armstrong and Paul Newman...Tasteful classic jazz such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday and Frank Sinatra drifts quietly through the hotel.

Throughout the hotel that same blend of artsy classic hip and formality combine to make a wonderful ambiance...Restful and relaxing, the hotel is located just off the Burg...right in the heart of the central city.

Formal but not stuffy...Hip, but not trendy...Expensive, but with good value...The Oud Huis de Peellaert is a great place for a little splurge in one of the world's most magical cities...
