For a convention only A review of Hyatt Regency Columbus
First let me start with the positives--the staff in the restaurant, at the front desk, and housekeeping were very responsive and friendly.
However, unless you are attending a convention there is no reason to stay here. It appears that they rely on being connected to the convention center and that they will fill up with convention attendees so they don't need to try very hard. It is amazing to me that a convention center downtown hotel would have only a data port and no high speed internet connection in the room. Of course, this is accompanied by a $1 per call charge. Also, since I was there for a tech convention it seemed like everyone was using a dial-up service because the connection was very slow, and I was thrown offline several times resulting in another $1 charge each time. The rooms were average and cleaner than the last few times we were there, but that's not much of a compliment. The food choices at breakfast were very limited and expensive. Their continental buffet which they described as all kinds of fruits and pastries were bowls of pineapple, cantaloupe and watermelon with 2 kinds of muffins or toast. Overall, it's convenient for a convention, but not a hotel I'd choose for any other reason.
Several members of our delegation stayed at the Drury Hotel next door, and they loved it. It would be a much better choice if you need a downtown hotel.
