First Stay of Many! A review of Atlantis - Harborside Resort
We just returned from a weeklong stay at the Harborside on August 2, 2003 and had a great time!! My wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary last year at the Atlantis (Coral Towers), where we spent our honeymoon at Merv Griffin's Paradise Island Resort and Casino. I wanted to look into a timeshare and this appeared to be the perfect opportunity. The Harborside staff were more than willing to offer us a viewing and we wound up purchasing a 2 bedroom premium villa.
This was the 1st time we stayed there and it was exactly as we imagined - we invited several family members and had a great time. As mentioned in one of the prior reviews, you have access to all of the beautiful scenery, attractions, events and Atlantis amenities and the shuttle buses run very regularly, however the Harborside permits you to escape from the crowds at the Atlantis facilities to the gigantic free form pool, Point bar and restaurant and plentiful canopy-equipped lounge chairs (which are at a high premium at the Atlantis pools and beach).
Despite our tempered expectations of the "guaranteed-gratuity" arrangement staff, we found every single staff member in both the Atlantis and the Harborside to be friendly, helpful and genuinely eager to assist in any way possible. It is worth noting that many locals in Nassau are not so willing to bend over for you just because you are sporting a flurescent Atlantis bracelet, so keep in mind that the rules of engagement in town are to treat people the way you would like to be treated - these people are not paid to serve you like at the resort. By exercising common courtesy, you will be treated fine.
We were able to enjoy several other excursions, including the dophin encounter, Flying Cloud snorkeling trip and wave runner rentals, all of which were well worth the price - you may be able to negotiate the wave runner and parasailing fees, especially toward the later afternoon.
Overall, the Atlantis is a great family place with tons to see and do and the Harborside Resort offers luxurious accomodations (fully furnished kitchen, jacuzzis, video game adapters for the kids)while permitting you to escape the inevitable crowds. If you are traveling with a group of people, the Harborside offers much more than ajoining rooms at the hotel. Looking forward to bringing the next group down next year!
